Glass Board Up

Emergency Board Up Services: Glass Board Up

Boarding up is the process of installing boards on the windows and doors of a property in order to protect it from storm damage, to protect unused, vacant, or abandoned property, and/or to prevent unauthorized access by squatters, looters, or vandals.

How do you board up a window? What materials do you use?

Try using plywood if you need to cover up a window. First, measure the height and width of the window so that you can calculate the amount of wood that will be required. The next step is to cut a piece of plywood so that it is wider and eight inches taller than the window.

What kind of materials could I use to board up the windows?

Barricades made of polycarbonate or metal provide reliable protection and are resilient to the effects of collision. The panels are mounted on a track that is fixed along the openings of the windows. One product gives an alternative method to fasten plywood into stone window niches, and another product offers yet another method. These clips can be attached to the edges of plywood panels once they have been trimmed to the appropriate size.

When is it necessary to cover windows with board?

It requires the efforts of two people. Before the wind picks up, it is strongly recommended that the windows be boarded up. The plywood can be difficult to grasp, which makes the operation considerably more challenging.

Which types of wood are most suitable for boarding up windows?

Plywood with a minimum thickness of 5/8 inch and an exterior-grade (CDX) designation is recommended by industry associations in the insurance sector. Installation of hurricane plywood typically requires the assistance of two people, particularly when working with large panels.

How do I cover a window that has been broken?

It is possible to cover the fractures with tape, whether it be packing tape, masking tape, or duct tape. This will keep the glass from breaking apart and will prevent the damage from growing any worse until you can replace the window. Cover every crack with tape on both sides. If there is too much to tape all of it, then you can cover the glass with cardboard if there is too much.
