Flooding

Among natural disasters in the United States, flooding is the most common. Flooding can be described in the broadest terms as any time there is a temporary overflow of water onto land that would otherwise be dry. Rain, snow, coastal storms, and storm surges, as well as dam overflows and other failures of water systems, are some of the factors that contribute to flooding.

If my house floods, will it be possible to repair it?

The process of rebuilding your home or property can begin after the damage has been cleaned and dried. The amount of time it will take to complete this task will be determined by the extent to which the flooding has occurred. In the case of minor floods with only minor water damage, mopping up the water and completely drying everything out may be all that's required.

What is the significance of water damage restoration?

Areas that have been flooded can pose serious health risks if the water damage restoration process is not completed as soon as possible. If your home has recently been flooded or has experienced another incident in which water has caused damage, it is critical that you dry out the affected areas as soon as possible.

Is it likely that the carpet will need to be replaced?

Water damage can cause delamination (in which the backing separates from the fibers) in some cases where carpet has been wet for an extended period of time. In these cases, the carpet will need to be replaced because the backing has separated from the fibers. Alternatively, if the water came from a contaminated source such as sewage, the carpet will almost certainly need to be replaced. However, in the majority of cases, if carpets have been saturated with clean water and we are able to get to them quickly, they can be dried, sanitized, and cleaned without causing any damage.

When does water damage become worse? 

The longer the damage is left unattended, the greater the chance that the damage will spread throughout the building. Because of the moisture, the ceiling will become discolored and begin to bulge, and mold will begin to grow. In most cases, damage to the walls will result in discoloration and mold growth before the entire structure is irreparably damaged and must be replaced.

Flooding will have an impact on the value of real estate, but how much?

In most cases, flooding has only a temporary impact on real estate values, with prices returning to their pre-flood levels three years after the flooding occurred. Events involving flooding that took place in low-risk areas had no effect on the value of real estate in those locations.
